How Our Rating Works (UPDATED 10/18)

Alright, so with the passing of time, I’ve noticed that a score out of fifty doesn’t cut it. I wanted to stay away from the 100 rating to dodge comparisons to other popular publications, but the 100-point system really seems to work. So, with that in mind, here is the new way we’re going to try doing things.

Appearance: (Includes band, wrapper, the overall look of the cigar.)
Smoke: (Quantity of smoke. Some cigars just don’t cut it, this is actually surprisingly important. )
Flavor: (Is the cigar flavorful? Does it have flavors that go well together? Do the flavors come out strong, is there complexity?)
Burn: (Is the burn even? Does it burn too fast? Does it go out?)
Impression: (Is it memorable? Does it touch you? Is it something that has an ineffable quality to it?)
Construction: (Does the cigar stay together? Does it crack? Is it soft or too hard?)

No calculations would be required from you. Just sit back and enjoy reading our reviews! Our descriptions with our scores should give you a pretty good idea of where a cigar stands. If there are any more questions – feel free to comment here or contact us via email! And remember – every score is subjective – even if a big magazine (or WBF!) gives a score of a 100 to a cigar, it still might be in the “crap” category of YOUR book! Smoke and enjoy! Cheers!

p.s. Some of the latest older posts will have the outdated 50-point catagories. Feel free to ask us for an updated score; we’ll smoke ‘em again just for you!
